Byron Back

Chris Back

Byron and Chris Back are year round professional licensed guides and have been fishing Lake Conroe for over 30 years. Byron and son, Chris, specialize in catching catfish, crappie and all species of bass. Years of experience and keeping accurate daily logs aid these anglers in staying on top of the seasonal patterns and migrations of the fish, which in turn makes for a productive day on the lake. In addition to Lake Conroe, guide trips are also available on Gibbons Creek Reservoir located in Carlos, Texas, between Huntsville and Bryan on State Highway 30.

The Boat

The boat is a 19 foot Bass Cat with large front deck, comfortable enough to accomodate 2 to 3 people including the guide.

The boat is equipped with a 150 hp Evinrude outboard, 24 volt trolling motor, 3 Lowrance depth finders, built in cooler for drinks and lots of storage for equipment needed for the trip.

The boat offers a smooth dry ride which can be a big plus if the wind kicks up on the lake.

A Little History & Our Strategy

Years ago, my fishing was mostly limited to black bass since I fished the bass fishing team circuit. When my young son got old enough to fish things changed. He kept score by how many fish he caught and not by how big they were. So . . . over the last 18 years, we've chased white bass up the creeks of the Trinity River (his favorite!), outwitted catfish on Lake Conroe and Gibbons Creek, and surprised big bass on Fayette County and Lake Conroe. If my young son had a live-well or cooler full of fish to admire, he was all smiles!

We use this same strategy today in our guide service. We go after what species is biting the best to insure that your trip is very productive and one to remember. Some of the most exciting times that a person will have in a lifetime are spent on the water with family and friends. Most of the pictures on this website are of my family and friends and if you look close they are all wearing a grin that they just can't wipe off their face. We'll treat you like family and friends when you book with us at A Reel Adventure . . . and the grin you'll be wearing is on the house!
